I have never understood all this business about raking up the leaves. Honestly!
One of the best sounds in the whole world is the crunch of beautiful, crispy leaves underfoot and the gentle rustling we hear when a futile attempt to kick a trail right through the middle of them is made.
And the smell! The burnt, dry, sweet smell of fallen autumn brings back memories of those hundreds of leaf piles of my midwest yesteryear. Oh, what great times those were - sisters and Panda, the dog, and football games and popcorn and wool varsity jackets. And to tie all of this fall goodness up neatly into a black garbage bag? No thank you!
No, here at our house the leaves stay and faithfully provide hours of entertainment and those glorious sounds and smells to this next generation of leaf jumpers.
Jump away, kiddos!
