Animal Crackers
Saturday, February 07, 2009
Last week I had the privilege of watching my 6-year-old daughter recite the world's cutest poem in front of the entire student body (K-12) at her school as well as a good number of parents.
Boy was I nervous for her. Public speaking has never been my thing.
Well, let me tell you, she stood up there on the stage, looked out at everyone in the audience, began reciting the poem and just plain nailed it!
At that moment, I think I was the proudest mama there ever was :)

Animal Crackers
by Christopher Morley
(1st three stanzas)
Animal crackers, and cocoa to drink,
That is the finest of suppers, I think;
When I'm grown up and can have what I please
I think I shall always insist upon these.
What do you choose when you're offered a treat?
When Mother says, "What would you like best to eat?"
Is it waffles and syrup, or cinnamon toast?
It's cocoa and animals that I love the most!
The kitchen's the coziest place that I know:
The kettle is singing, the stove is aglow,
And there in the twilight, how jolly to see
The cocoa and animals waiting for me.
Sorry I missed it!
